FECHAS Y HORAS

1.- Fechas

• Para las fechas de utilizan los números ordinales, no los cardinales como en español.
• Para los días se usa la preposición ON.
• Para los meses y años se utiliza IN.
• Los días, y meses se escriben con mayúscula.
• Normalmente el orden es Mes/Día/Año (May, 20th 2014)para el inglés americano, y Dia/Mes/Año para el inglés británico (20th May 2014)

• On the 12th of May, 2014
• In 1987
• On Monday

Números ordinales:

• 1st First
• 2nd Second
• 3rd Third

• 4th Fourth
• 5th Fifth
• 6th Sixth
• 7th Seventh
• 8th Eighth
• 9th Ninth
• 10th Tenth
• 11th Eleventh
• 12th Twelfth
• 13th Thirteenth
• 14th Fourteenth...
• 21st
• 22nd
• 23rd
• 24th...

2.- Años

• Antes del 2000, la fecha se parte en dos a la hora de pronunciar:

• 1754 Seventeen Fifty-four (17 por un lado y 54 por otro).
• NO se dice One thousand seven hundred fifty four.

• Después del 2000 se pronuncia como en español:

• 2010 Two thousand ten

•  Antes y Después de Cristo:

• B.C. (Before Christ) Antes de Cristo
• A.D. (Anno Domini) Después de Cristo

• Preposiciones:

• IN: Para periodos de tiempo (meses, años, siglos, estaciones..) y para hablar de un evento futuro.

• I start school in September
• I was born in 1978
• I´ll be there in a minute
• I´ll be back in two days
• On Christmas day (Sólo es ON, pero si es Christmas en general puede ser también AT).

• ON: Para días de la semana y fechas

• I go to the gym on Mondays
• It was raining on my wedding day
• Let´s meet on New Year´s Eve
• She is coming on July 29th 

• AT: Para indicar una hora, días señalados, partes del día, y en algunas expresiones como "At the same time"

• At 6 o´clock 
• At Christmas (Puede ser también ON)
• At dawn 

• At the weekend (También es correcto ON). 

3.- Horas:

• Se utiliza AM (ei em) y PM (pi em) para determinar si es ante meridiem (las horas posteriores a la medianoche 00:00 y anteriores al mediodía 12:00) o post meridiem (La horas posteriores al mediodía (Midday) 12:00 y anteriores a la media noche (Midnight) 00:00).
• Es más formal decir in the Morning, in the Afternoon, in the Evening y at Night.

• It´s 5 o´clock in the Morning. It´s 5am. 

• It´s 11 o´clock at nigh. It´s 11pm.

•  Se utiliza "PAST y TO", "quarter to/past", "half past" y "o´clock" exactamente igual que en español. 

4.- Frases relacionadas:

• At the end of the day (Al final)
• I´ve got a flu every second day (Tengo catarro cada dos por tres)
• On a day to day basis (Diariamente)
• Present day requirements (Exigencias actuales) Continues to the present day (Continúa hasta hoy)
• We left at daybreak/dawn (Salimos al amanecer)
• I´m so tired that I´ll have to call it a day (Estoy tan cansado que tendré que parar)
• This is the best competition to date (Es la mejor competición hasta el momento)
• Is the list up to date? (Esta la lista actualizada?)
• You just made my day! (Me has alegrado el día)
• I was having a daydream (Estaba soñando despierta)
• He is getting better day by day (Está mejorando día tras día)
• This film looks very dated now (Ésta pelicula esta anticuada ya)
• The sculpture has an ageless beauty (La escultura tiene una belleza eterna)
• When he comes of age (Cuándo alcance la mayoría de edad)
• We pay a yearly amount (Pagamos una cantidad anual)
• I could live here all year round (Podría vivir aqui todo el año)
• This is my high school yearbook (Éste es el anuario de mi instituto)
• We´re never going to finish this in a month of Sundays (No vamos a acabar esto en mucho tiempo)
• It takes forever to make it (Se tarda mucho en hacerlo)
• He comes home at all hours (Viene a casa a cualquier hora)
