1.- I´m coming!
Cuando nos llama alguien y le contestamos en español, decimos "Ya voy", pero en inglés no dicen "I´m going", sino "I´m coming" o simplemente "Coming".
2.- Eventually
- And eventually, Arsenal won the Premier League. (Y finalmente el Arsenal ganó la liga)
- That was a great meal, we´ll have a dessert and do the dishes eventually.
4.- People are
En español la gente es, no son, pero en inglés People ARE.
5.- Make or Do
Una regla un poco general es intentar pensar en Make como "construir" o "crear", tanto crear una cosa, (i made a cake) como una reacción, (you make me happy). Una excepción a ésta regla, seria "I´m doing a painting". Algunos ejemplos:
- Wine is made from grapes
- Watches are made in Switzerland
- I made a choice
- I have to make a speech
- He is making noises
- I´ll make a cup of tea
- Make the bed
- Can I make a suggestion?
- I should make an exception
- You are always making excuses for him
- Do you mind if I make a phone call?
- The company is making a huge profit
- He is making a lot of money
- To make a mistake
Do, lo usamos para tareas, (do the dishes), o para reemplazar un verbo, (do my hair instead of combe my hair). Una excepción a ésta regla seria "Making the bed". Algunos ejemplos:
- I love to do my job
- Do business
- I like doing the housework
- Have you done your homework?
- Can you do me a favour?
- What did you do at the weekend?
- I didn´t do anything yesterday
- She is doing everything by herself
- I decided to do a course
- Just do your best
- I´m doing a painting
- Doing excercise
6.-Tomorrow I´m going / Tomorrow I will go
Se utiliza "I´m going to" si es una decisión planeada, y "I´ll go" si es una decisión que tomas sobre la marcha.
- I´m going to the doctor tomorrow at 5pm.
- I´m feeling a little bit under the weather, I think I´ll go to the GP tomorrow.
7.- Two and a half hours
Cuando es una hora y media, puedes decir "one and a half", pero si es mas de una, "hours" pasa al final "three and a half hours", "Two and a half years":
- It´s two and a half hours walk
- It´s one hour and a half walk
8.-Shadow / Shade
- The cat is afraid of its own shadow
- Lets sit under the shade
9.- On the Internet
Cuando se habla de Internet, se coloca el "The" delante, y No se usa "in internet".
- Over the internet
- From the internet
- On the internet
10.- Lost / Missed
- I missed the train
- I lost my keys
