VOCABULARIO 4

Hola a tod@s!!

En ésta entrada os dejo algo de vocabulario que espero que os sea útil:

1.-PAMPER : MIMAR

• I like to pamper myself after a hard day. (Me gusta mimarme tras un día duro)
• He was a pampered rich kid. (Fue un niño mimado)
• She pampers her dog with the best food. (Mima a su perro con la mejor comida)
• He was a spolied child. (Fue un niño malcriado/mimado)
• My aunt indulges the children. (Mi tio consiente mucho a los niños)

2.-SNUG : CÓMODO / AJUSTADO

• This is the most snug thing (Ésta es la cosa más cómoda)
• We curled up in bed, all warm and snug (Nos acurrucamos en la cama, calentitos y cómodos)

3.-PANTRY : DESPENSA

• I like to have a full pantry. (Me gusta tener la despensa llena)

4.-TO BE BLUNT : SER HONESTO / FRANCO
Podemos decir To be BLUNT en vez de To be honest.

• Let´s be blunt, younger people will not buy this car.
• I´ll be blunt, your work was terrible.

Blunt también puede tener otros significados como "mitigar" y "desafilado":

• My recent bad experience has rather blunted my enthusiasm for travel. (Mi experiencia reciente mitiga mi entusiasmo por viajar) 
•  Please, use the blunt scissors. (Por favor, usa las tijeras sin punta)

5.-TO HAVE / GET COLD FEET : ECHARSE ATRÁS

• Mary got cold feet at the last moment and called off the wedding. (Mary se echó atrás en el último momento y canceló la boda)
• I was goint to apply for the job, but I got cold feet. (Iba a presentar mi candidatura para el trabajo, pero me eché atrás)

6.-SLEEVE: FUNDA / MANGA

• Can you put the record back in it´s sleeve please? (Puedes volver a poner el disco en su funda, por favor?)
• He has a trick up his sleeve (Tiene un as debajo de la manga)
• Remove it from sleeve (Quítale la funda)
• Roll your sleeves up (Súbete las mangas)

7.-GIGGLE: SONREIR, REIR

• I often used to get the giggles in lectures when I was at college (Me solían dar ataques de risa cuando leíamos en el colegio)
• I caught him having a giggle about her poetry (Le he pillado riéndose de su poesía) 

8.-NIFTY: INGENIOSO, SUTIL, HABIL

• He is nifty on his feet (Es habilidoso con sus pies)
• He told us a nifty joke (Nos contó un chiste ingenioso)

9.-STROKE: ACARICIAR

• Give the horse a stroke (Acaricia al caballo)
• Stroke the dog if you like (Acaricia al perro si quieres)

10.-GURGLE: GORGOTEO

• The stream gurgle over the rocks (La corriente gorgoteaba sobre las rocas)
• The baby gurgles (El bebé gorgotea)
