Pronunciación /iː/ Vs /ɪ/

Hola a tod@s!!

En ésta entrada os dejo una lista de algunas palabras con los sonidos /iː/ ("i" larga) y /ɪ/ ("i" corta). Hay que practicar!!
Espero que os ayude.

1.- Ejemplos para practicar:


  • La "i" larga la hacemos con la boca en horizontal, como con una sonrisa, y pronunciaremos dos veces la "i".
  • La "i" corta la haremos normal,

PLURALES

En ésta entrada os dejo una lista de los plurales en inglés. Generalmente el plural se hace añadiendo "s" al final de la palabra, pero hay ocasiones en las que ésto no es así, os dejo algunos de éstos casos, espero que lo encontréis útil:


1.- Cuando el singular acaba en "f" o en "fe" 

  • Cuando el singular acaba en "fe" la "e" final no se pronuncia.
  • En ambos casos en el plural se sustituye la "f" o "fe" por "ves"

Os dejo algunos ejemplos:

En algunos casos, se puede utilizar tanto sustituir la "f" o "fe" por "ves" como añadir una "s"al final :

  • Se añade "es" en algunas palabras. No existe una regla, hay que memorizalas, os dejo las más comunes:

  • El resto añade "s" como en "piano/pianos", "zoo/zoos"...

  • Si termina en vocal + "y" se añade "s" como en "day/days" o en "toy/toys".

SPELLING RULES: LETRAS DOBLES

En ésta entrada os dejo un post sobre un par de reglas con las letras dobles. Espero que os sirva de guia:

1.- ASS- VOCAL

Ass, significa Asno, burro, y también se escribe con doble SS aunque no siga una vocal. (Éste término también significa culo).

Todas las palabras que comienzan por AS seguidas de vocal, SIEMPRE se escriben con doble S:

  • Assassin (Asesino)
  • Assault (Asalto)
  • Assemble (Montar, ensamblar)
  • Assiduity (Asiduidad)
  • Assignment (Asignación, encargo, tarea)
  • Assist (Asistir)
  • Associate (Asociar)
  • Assume (Asumir)
  • Assure (Asegurar)

2.-ACC+ E,I,O,U y L,R

Todas las palabras que comienzan por AC y van seguidas de cualquier vocal excepto la A (Academy) y por las consonantes L y R, se escriben con doble C:

ERRORES COMUNES VI

En ésta entrada os dejo otra lista de errores comunes que espero que os sirva de ayuda.


1.- DEAD or DEATH

  • Dead es el adjetivo /ded/
  • I forgot to water my plants and now they are dead (Me olvidé de regar las plantas y ahora están muertas)
  • The pub was dead (El bar estaba muerto (No había nadie)) 
  • Death es el nombre /deθ/ (dez)
  • Death scares some people (La muerte da miedo a algunas personas)
  • Smoking can cause death (Fumar puede causar la muerte) 
2.-LAY or LIE


BASE  LAY (Poner) LIE (Tumbarse) LIE (Mentir)
PASADO SIMPLE LAID LAY LIED
PARTICIPIO LAID LAIN LIED

Os dejo algunos ejemplos:

BASE:
  • Shall I lay the tray on the bed? (Debería poner la bandeja en la cama?)
  • I love to lie on the bed and read (Me encanta tumbarme en la cama y leer)
  • Don´t lie to me (No me mientas)
PASADO SIMPLE:
  • Peter laid his bag on the floor (Peter dejó su mochila en el suelo)
  • I lay on the grass and watched a plane (Me tumbé en el césped y vi un avión)
  • I lied to my teacher (Mentí a mi profesor)
PARTICIPIO:
  • She had just laid the last piece on the grill (Ella ha dejado el último trozo en el grill)
  • He would have lain on the sofa all day (Se podría haber tumbado en el sofá todo el día)
  • He could have lied to everyone (Pudo haber mentido a todos)
He lays the remote where no one can find it. (Deja el mando de la tele donde nadie puede encontrarlo)
I had a big lie in this morning (Me he levantado tarde ésta mañana)
He let me have a massive lie in (Me ha dejado dormir mucho)

3.-FUL

Full significa "lleno", y es la única palabra que he encontrado que termina en FULL en inglés.
Todas las palabras que terminen en FUL lo hacen con UNA SOLA "L":

  • Powerful (Poderoso)
  • Careful (Cuidadoso)
  • Useful (Útil)
  • Awful (Feo)
  • Cheerful (Animado)...

4.- -CIAL, -TIAL, -CIOUS, -TIOUS

Os dejo una lista de los errores más comunes a la hora de escribir éstas terminaciones:

Decimos "He estado en el norte", pero en inglés no se utiliza "IN", sino TO

6.-CLOTHES /kləʊðz/

Ropa, normalmente por su pronunciación (cloudzs (Con la lengua haciendo la d/z contra los dientes superiores)) olvidamos escribir la "e" NO es Cloths, sino Clothes.

7.-I DON´T MIND

Solemos decirlo seguido de To+infinitivo, pero se dice seguido de ING:

  • I don´t mind working long hours (No me importa trabajar largas horas)
  • Would you mind getting me a newspaper? (Te importa traerme un periódico?)
No se dice "I don´t mind to work" o "Would you mind to get me".


8.-Tooth /tuːθ/ (tuuz) / Teeth /tiːθ/  (tiiz)

Tooth es el singular:

  • I´ve got a broken/missing tooth (Me falta un diente)
  • I had to have a tooth out (Me tuvieron que sacar un diente)
Teeth es el plural:
  • I have to brush my teeth (Me tengo que lavar los dientes)

9.-WHO / WHOM

Who: Quién

  • Who is he? (Quién es el?)
  • Who wrote the letter? (Quién escribió la carta?)
  • We all know who did it (Todos sabemos quién lo hizo)

Whom: Con quién, de quién, a quien,

  • Whith whom did you go to London? (Con quién fuiste a Londres?)
  • He is the man whom I went fishing. (Es el hombre con el que fui a pescar)
  • We wonder whom the book was about (Nos preguntamos de qui´n hablará el libro)
  • To whom it may concern (A quién concierna)

10.-ADVICE / ADVISE


Advise: Asesorar, aconsejar

  • I advise you to loose weigh (Te aconsejo que pierdas peso)
  • They did what we advised (Hicieron lo que aconsejamos)

Advice: Asesoramiento, consejo


    • Let me give you some advice (Deja que te de un consejo)
    • She gave him a lot of advice (Ella le dio muchos consejos)

    Pronunciación: TH

    Hola a tod@s!!

    En ésta entrada os dejo una lista de palabras con "TH" y los distintos modos de pronunciación, espero que lo encontréis útil:


    1.- Cuando la TH suena /ð/ 

    Para conseguir éste sonido, hay que 

    • Sacar un poco la lengua 
    • Presionarla sobre los dientes superiores 
    • Dejando salir el aire entre ambos
    • El sonido es como una mezcla entre una "z" y una "d"
    Lo importante es no hacer una "d" española, ya que cambiaríamos por completo el significado de la palabra, como en el caso de "day" o "they".

    Blunt también puede tener otros significados como "mitigar" y "desafilado":
    • My recent bad experience has rather blunted my enthusiasm for travel. (Mi experiencia reciente mitiga mi entusiasmo por viajar) 
    •  Please, use the blunt scissors. (Por favor, usa las tijeras sin punta)
    5.-TO HAVE / GET COLD FEET : ECHARSE ATRÁS
    • Mary got cold feet at the last moment and called off the wedding. (Mary se echó atrás en el último momento y canceló la boda)
    • I was goint to apply for the job, but I got cold feet. (Iba a presentar mi candidatura para el trabajo, pero me eché atrás)
    6.-SLEEVE: FUNDA / MANGA

    • Can you put the record back in it´s sleeve please? (Puedes volver a poner el disco en su funda, por favor?)
    • He has a trick up his sleeve (Tiene un as debajo de la manga)
    • Remove it from sleeve (Quítale la funda)
    • Roll your sleeves up (Súbete las mangas)

    7.-GIGGLE: SONREIR, REIR

    • I often used to get the giggles in lectures when I was at college (Me solían dar ataques de risa cuando leíamos en el colegio)
    • I caught him having a giggle about her poetry (Le he pillado riéndose de su poesía) 

    8.-NIFTY: INGENIOSO, SUTIL, HABIL

    • He is nifty on his feet (Es habilidoso con sus pies)
    • He told us a nifty joke (Nos contó un chiste ingenioso)

    9.-STROKE: ACARICIAR

    • Give the horse a stroke (Acaricia al caballo)
    • Stroke the dog if you like (Acaricia al perro si quieres)

    10.-GURGLE: GORGOTEO

    • The stream gurgle over the rocks (La corriente gorgoteaba sobre las rocas)
    • The baby gurgles (El bebé gorgotea)




    MAY OR MIGHT

    En ésta entrada os dejo las diferencias entre "May" y "Might", espero que os sea de utilidad.

    1. MAY

    • Para pedir permiso de un modo formal
    • May I borrow your pen?

    • Para decir que algo es posible que ocurra
    • It may rain later 


    2.MIGHT

    • Se utiliza al igual que "May" para decir que algo es posible que ocurra, pero con menos posibilidades que si decimos "May". 
    • She might be at home, but it´s not sure at all.
    • I thought he might be hungry. 
    • It might be dangerous / It mightn´t be safe.
    • I thought you might like to join me for dinner.


    • Para el pasado se utiliza MIGHT HAVE
    •  I might have dropped it in the street.

    VOCABULARIO: HÁBITOS

    Hola a tod@s!!

    En ésta entrada os dejo una pequeña lista de vocabulario relacionado con hábitos, espero que sea útil.

    1.-BOSTEZAR
    Yawn (yooun)
    • I can´t stop yawning, I must be tired. (No dejo de bostezar, debo estar cansado)
    • She tried to stifle a yawn. (Intentó reprimir un bostezo)
    • It´s a bit of a yawn. (Es un poco aburrido)

    2.-TIRARSE UN PEDO
    Fart (faat) (La "r" no se pronuncia)
    • To do a fart (Tirarse un pedo)
    • He is an old fart (Es un viejo indeseable)
    • Everyone farts (Todo el mundo se tira pedos)
    Stop farting about/arround and help me cleaning (Deja de vaguear y ayúdame a limpiar) 

    3.-ERUCTAR
    Burp (buup) (la "r" no se pronuncia)

    • Burp your baby after feedings (Haga eructar a su bebé tras las tomas)
    • I want to burp (Quiero eructar)

    4.-GUIÑAR EL OJO
    Wink
    • He winked at me (Me guió el ojo)
    • The light was winking (La luz estaba parpadeando)
    • I didn´t sleep a wink last night. (Anoche no pegué ojo)

    5.-METERSE EL DEDO EN LA NARIZ
    Picking the nose
    • He is picking his nose all the time (Se mete el dedo en la nariz todo el tiempo)
    • Los mocos se pueden llamar boogers, snot, o mucus.
    • To blow the nose (Sonarse la nariz)
    • To have a running nose (Tener mocos)

    6.-SORBER MOCOS
    Sniffs / Sniffles
    • You were sniffing a lot, I presumed you had a cold (Tenias muchos mocos, di por hecho que tenias catarro)
    • You are sniffling a lot today, have you got a cold? (Tienes muchos mocos hoy, tienes catarro?)

    7.-ESTORNUDAR
    Sneeze (sniis)
    • Cats make me sneeze (Los gatos me hacen estornudar)
    • It´s not to be sneezed at! (Es una expresión que más o menos significa: No es moco de pavo)

    8.-MASCAR CHICLE
    Snap your gum (Es cuando haces ruidos, o con la boca abierta)
    • He snaps his gum  (Él masca chicle)

    9.-ESTIRARSE
    Stetch Out
    • I just want to get home and stretch out on the sofa (Sólo quiero llegar a casa y estirarme en el sofá)

    10.-TOSER
    Cough (cof)
    • The smoke made me cough (El humo me hizo toser)
    • I have a dry cough (Tengo una tos seca)
    • I have a hacking cough (Tengo una tos (áspera, ruidosa, que suena dolorosa)
    • She started to cough up blood (Empezó a toser sangre) 
    • She has a nasty smoker´s caugh (Tiene una asquerosa tos de fumadora)

    • Forehead (Fóred)
    • She´s got a high forehead (Tiene mucha frente)

    Gum también significa "Goma de borrar" y "Chicle"

    • Give somebody the elbow (Terminar una relación amorosa)
    • They went out together for a month and then she gave him the elbow.
    • To be at somebody´s elbow (A la vera de alguien)
    • She was always at his elbow.
    9.-MANDÍBULA
    • Jaw
    • He has a strong/square jaw (Tiene una marcada/cuadrada mandíbula)
    • Upper / Lower jaw (Mandíbula superior / Inferior)
    10.-AMÍGDALAS
    • Tonsils
    • Tonsillitis (Amigdalitis)

    ERRORES COMUNES IV

    Hola a tod@s!!

    En ésta entrada os dejo otra lista de errores comunes, espero que os ayude.

    1.-Advice

    En español se dice "Dar UN consejo", pero en inglés no se puede poner a/an delante de un nombre incontable, asi que se dice:
    • "She gave me some advice", no se puede decir "She gave an advice".

    2.-WHAT COLOUR
    A veces decimos "which" en vez de "what":
    • What colour are your eyes? no se dice which color
    • What color is your hair? 

    3.- CONGRATULATIONS
    • Congratulations ON your new job, no FOR your new job

    4.-THAT / IT 
    Si te cruzas con alguien que te saluda y no sabes quien es, o si llaman a la puerta y vas a ver quien es se utiliza THAT o IT:
    •  I don´t know who THAT is  
    •  I´m going to see who IT is no who he is

    5.- PROBLEM

    • The problem of finding a good teacher, no the problem to find a good teacher

    6.-PAST
    • I haven´t paid the bill yet, no I didn´t pay the bill yet

    7.- HOLIDAY
    • I´ve been on holiday no holidays

    8.-ADVERTISEMENT
    • I saw an advertisement FOR a teaching job, no OF a teaching job

    9.-THE SUN RISES
    • The sun rises in the east, not from

    10.-VIVIR HASTA LOS..
